Track team takes off

The Dawson County High School boys track team participated at The Eagle Invitational hosted by East Jackson Comprehensive High School on March 3.

Ten teams competed in the event, with the Tigers accumulating 20 points.

Class AAAAA Parkview took the team title after scoring 132 points.

Loganville finished in second with 98 points, followed by Oglethorpe County with 65 points.

Also competing were: Commerce, East Jackson, Jefferson, Athens Christian, Habersham Central and Jackson County.

Tiger Zack Wilkins had a big day for Coach Arron Haynes' team.

Wilkins finished in second place in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 43.77 seconds. Winning the event, in a very close race, was Kendrick Presley from Oglethorpe County, who barely edged out Wilkins with a time of 43.37 second.

Wilkins also took second place in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.72.

Wilkins picked up 16 points for his team.

He was also part of the sixth place 4x200 meter relay team along with teammates Chris Sayler, Josh Litherland and Logan Lewis.

The team posted a time of 1:39.72, good enough for 2 team points.

Jonathan Erickson got a team point for a sixth place finish in the 3200-meters with a time of 11:03.71.

The team will take part in the Greater Atlanta Christian School Invitational meet this Saturday in Norcross. Field events will begin at 9 a.m.
