Tigers tally 2nd at Rumble on the Ridge

The Dawson County High School varsity wrestling team picked up a second place finish at the Rumble on the Ridge Dual Tournament held at Fannin County High School.

Coach Arron Haynes' squad notched wins against Murphy High School from North Carolina, 53-30, Riverside Military Academy, 45-29 and dominated Union County in a shutout, 84-0.

Dawson lost in the finals, in a close match, to Blessed Trinity, 39-34 at the Dec. 10 event.

Picking up wins in the final dual match for the Tigers were: Anthony Underwood (106 pounds) with a 7-6 decision over Michael Muller; Justin Evans (113 pounds) by forfeit; James Evans (126 pounds) with a 8-2 decision over Kyle Evans; Cory Jenkins (132 pounds) by way of a pin; Billy Smith (182 pounds) by forfeit; Evans Kells (195 pounds) with a 9-1 major decision over Michael Reagan and Josh Gee with a pin at 285 pounds.

Dawson County pulled out a close decision over Riverside Military Academy from Gainesville.

Getting valuable team points in the 9-point win were: Anthony Underwood (106 pounds) by forfeit; Quade Buytendorp (113 pounds) forfeit; James Evans (126 pounds) by pin; Cory Jenkins (132 pounds) by pin; Coty Greer (138 pounds) forfeit; Zach Guy (152 pounds) forfeit; Preston Adams (160 pounds) pin; and Evan Kells (182 pounds) with a 7-5 decision over John-Mark McFarlane.

Against Murphy, N.C. the Tigers controlled the match in almost every weight class.

Winning by way of pin were: James Evans (126 pounds), Cory Jenkins (132 pounds), Kevin Holtzclaw (145 pounds), Levi Pressley (152 pounds) and Rick Brown (170 pounds).

Anthony Underwood (106 pounds) and Preston Adams (160 pounds) dominated their matches with 15-0 technical fall decisions.

Justin Evans (113 pounds) and Colton Chester (220 pounds) won by forfeit.

Union County was no match for the Tigers.

The Panthers did not pick up a single point in the 84-0 Tigers win.

Pinning opponents were: James Evans (126 pounds), Cory Greer (132 pounds), Cory Jenkins (138 pounds), Zach Guy (145 pounds), Levi Pressley (152 pounds), Preston Adams (160 pounds), Evan Kells (195 pounds), Colton Chester (220 pounds) and Josh Gee (285 pounds).
