Tigers split with Gainesville, Lumpkin

The Dawson County High School varsity Tiger wrestling team hosted a tri-match with Gainesville and Lumpkin County last week.

The Tigers, led by coach Arron Haynes, were victorious over Gainesville, 60-16, but dropped a 46-21 decision to the Indians at the Jan. 22 event.

In the team's victory of the Gainesville Red Elephants, several Tigers pinned their opponents.

The list included: Justin Evans (106-pounds) over Ken Flenoy, Harrison Adams (126-pounds) over D'andre Flores, Cory Jenkins (132-pounds) over Andy Mai, Levi Pressley (138-pounds) over Terrell Knight, Evan Kells (170-pounds) over Spencer Williams, Gavin Brown (182-pounds) over Triston Cantrell, Jacob Haberkam (220-pounds) over Gabriel Fullmer and Harley Vaughn (285-pounds) over Kashmon Jones.

Zach Guy (160-pounds) picked up points by disqualification over Chastin Newman.

Tiger Anthony Underwood (113-pounds) won his match over Tyreke Fleming by an 8-1 decision.

Also winning by decision in a close match was Keaton Toal (195-pounds) over Anthony Costantini.

Against Lumpkin County it was tough going for the Tigers, even though several matches were decided by close margins.

Cory Jenkins won in the 132-pound weight class over Robert Harris by a 6-1 decision.

Dawson County wrestlers pinning their opponents were: Evan Kells (170-pounds) over James Zeller, Gavin Brown (182-pounds) over Wynston Sugarman, and Keaton Toal (195-pounds) over Bryan Roberts.

Brown is still undefeated on the season for the Tigers.

Dawson County will participate in the Area Sectionals on Friday and Saturday at Pike County High School.
