Tigers return from Alabama camp

Dawson County High School Head Basketball Coach Thad Burgess' boys' basketball team just completed a camp at Birmingham-Southern College in Alabama.

The Tigers came away with an impressive 6-1 record at the camp.

"We gained a lot of confidence by winning," Burgess said.

"We had a lot of time to just hang out together away from the court. I believe this helps build your team chemistry. It allows you to get away and learn about each other outside of basketball. We are very demanding on our players, and they also get a feel about me and the other coaches away from the court," he said.

Burgess said that he and his coaching staff are still experimenting with different offensive and defensive schemes this summer.

"I was really impressed that Will Anglin is taking a leadership role, which I think is important. He is the only player from last year that played some important minutes besides injured Tyler Dominy," Burgess said.

The team is still trying to adjust to a lot of new faces this summer.

"All the different combinations of players has been a real challenge," Burgess said.

As the summer winds down, Dawson will finish with a three-day team event in Roswell Wednesday through Friday of this week.
