It was a roller coaster week for the Dawson County varsity boys soccer team.

On Monday, the Tigers pulled off a physical win over Buford, 2-0, at home on April 22 before losing on the road to North Hall, 2-1, April 24.

The loss was crushing for Head Coach Jed Lacey's experienced team.

A win against the Trojans would have guaranteed a Region 7-AAA title. With the defeat, it dropped the Tigers all the way down to the fourth seed and a date in the state playoffs with No. 1-ranked St. Pius in Atlanta on Friday.

North Hall (9-3-2, 6-1 in region play) won the game on penalty kicks, 4-3, in the match with two top five-ranked teams. With the win, North Hall gained the No. 2 seed and a first round match-up with Woodward Academy.

Up next for Dawson County (13-2, 5-2) will be the Lions from Atlanta.

St. Pius comes into the contest with a perfect 14-0-2 record and a No. 1-seed from Region 5-AAA.

Coach David O'Shea and his team are on a seven-game winning streak in which they have scored 38 goals, while only giving up four.

The only two blemishes on the schedule for St. Pius were ties with Berkmar and Greenbriar.

Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. Friday.

The winner of the game will play either Cartersville (13-4), No. 2 in Region 5-AAA or East Jackson (8-8) the No. 3 team out of Region 8-AAA.

The second round of the state playoffs will be May 8 at the school of the higher seeded team.
