Over the weekend, six qualifiers from the Dawson County High School wrestling team participated in the state sectional tournament.
"I qualified for sectionals as a freshman, but this year I really feel like I've worked for it,” said Junior captain and first place area winner, Levi Baggett, prior to the event. “I've never felt better."
Other sectional qualifiers, including senior heavyweight Jake Williams, were feeling nostalgic about the end of their wrestling careers.
"I'm feeling great about my last season. I couldn't ask for a better team, I've known most of these guys my whole life," he said.
Three of the qualifiers ended up securing a spot at the State Finals this week. These state qualifiers include Kelton LeBaron, Wyatt Smith and Levi Baggett.
Representing the 120 lb and 126 lb weight class respectively, Kelton LeBaron and Wyatt Smith finished 3rd at sectionals while Levi Baggett placed 4th, wrestling at 182.
Qualifying alternates for the state finals included Brandon Jones (160) and Jake Williams (285), both finishing 5th. Nate Umberger, wrestling 170, took 6th place at sectionals.
The individual qualifiers will be traveling to Macon on Friday to participate in the state event.
