The Dawson County Tigers tennis team lost to Gilmer High School on Thursday, March 4 in their first region 7-3A game of the season.

The girls team went 2-5 with Kayleigh Moon winning first singles 7-5, 6-4 and first doubles duo Avery Yarbrough and Kenzie Stover pulling off the comeback victory. They lost 4-6 in their first set, but came back to win the next two 6-4, 6-4.

The only boys team to win on Thursday was the second double duo of Sam Hulsey and Zach Friday. After losing the first set in a close 5-7 battle, they battled back and won the next two sets with ease in a 6-3, 6-3 victory. The win keeps Hulsey and Friday undefeated as a doubles team this season.

Moon’s win improves her individual record this season to 5-1 after a loss to a tough Banks Co. team. Coming into this week, Brendan Swafford remained undefeated in first singles to start the season, but head coach Logan Allen said he faced tougher competition this week and went 0-3.

After starting the season 3-0, the Tigers are now 3-3 after losses to North Forsyth, Banks Co. and Gilmer. The Tigers continue their region schedule against West Hall on Tuesday, March 9. The match at West Hall starts at 4 p.m.
