TENNIS: Tigers claim first two region wins in dominant week

The Dawson County Tigers boys and girls tennis teams won all three of their matches this week. 

Other than a 11-9 overtime loss in third singles on Monday, March 8, the Tigers won every match against Johnson High School from Oakwood. Both Brendan Swafford (first singles) and Lane Perry (second singles) won overtime sets to win the match.

The following Tuesday, Dawson County won region matches against West Hall. The girls team swept the Spartans 5-0 and the boys won 4-1, with first singles Brendan Swafford losing a tough match 6-4, 7-5. 

The Tigers claimed two more region victories on Thursday, March 11 at White County High School. The girls edged out a 3-2 victory and the boys won 4-1. Kayleigh Moon won first seconds to move to an 8-1 individual record this season. Avery Beatty won third singles and Kenzie Stover and Avery Yarbrough won first doubles to grab the win. 

Second doubles duo Sam Hulsey and Zach Friday remain undefeated on the season after White County forfeited their second doubles match. 

The Tigers are both now 6-3 as a team on the season with a 2-1 record in Region 7-AAA. They continue their season on Tuesday, March 16 at home against Lumpkin County. Tuesday’s match is Senior night.
