TENNIS: Tigers and Lady Tigers sweep East Hall at first match of season

In the 2021 tennis season opener, the Dawson County Tigers swept East Hall at home.

The match on Thursday, Jan. 28 was a 9-0 victory, with the Lady Tigers not playing in a second doubles match. Kathryn Menoche competed in first singles with Kayleigh Moon playing second singles and Blake Smith playing third singles. Avery Beatty and Wendy Castro teamed up for the first doubles win. 

Brothers Brendan Swafford and Ben Swafford played first and second singles with Chase Cofield representing the Tigers in third singles. Connor Scroggins and Tyler Tangel played first doubles and Grant Ledbetter and Connor Woody played second doubles in the Tigers’ victory. 

No player on either Dawson County team lost a set. The Lady Tigers outscored East Hall 48-12 and the Tigers won 61-19. 

“It was a great way to start the season for the girls and the boys,” Lady Tigers head coach Laura Ledbetter said after the game.

The team will take a week off and will return to the court at Pickens High School on Tuesday, Feb. 9.
