Teams take part in invitational

The Dawson County High School boys track team ran at the prestigious Greater Atlanta Christian School Invitational on March 15 in Norcross.

Twelve teams participated, including; Peachtree Ridge, Buford, Decatur, Calhoun, East Jackson, Blessed Trinity, Providence, GACS, Washington County, Hebron and Cross Keys.

Buford won the team championship with a score of 107. Calhoun finished second with 98.5 points. The Tigers accumulated 14 points, but ran several great races against stiff competition.

Tiger Rhys Adams led Dawson County with a third-place showing in the pole vault. Adams vaulted 11'00."

Winning the event was David Curry from Buford at 13'00." Coming in second was Lee Powers-Eaton from Washington County.

In the field events, Tiger AJ Thomas came in fifth in the shot put. Thomas threw a distance of 38'7.5." Winning the event was Britt Lee from GACS with a throw of 41'00."

Also performing in the field events were Ryan Jones and Cole Smith in the discus; Dalton Edwards-high jump; Drew Keller and Mason Carr-long jump; Josh Woody-pole vault; Cole Smith-shot put; Harrison Adams and Mason Carr-triple jump.

In the running events, Armando Jimenez crossed the finish line in ninth-place in the 1,600-meters. Jimenez also ran in the 800-meters and finished 11th.

Rounding out the running events were: Scotty Zadernak and Hunter Mitchell-100 meters; Eric Leonard and Dalton Edwards in the 110-meter high hurdles; Spencer Cutts, Brandon Barker and Avery Cowart in the 1,600; Mason Carr and Drew Keller-200 meters; Dalton Edwards and Ben Umberger-300 hurdles; Avery Cowart and Brandon Barker-3,200 meters; Ryhs Adams and Harrison Adams-400 meters; and Brian Colin in the 800 meters.

Up this week for the boys track team will be the Amicalola Invitational at home on Saturday.
