The Dawson County High School Cross Country Team is busy conditioning for the upcoming season.

The team has been practicing since June 14 at Tiger Stadium. Practices usually begin around 6:30 p.m.

Head Coach Brian DeRose and his coaching staff go over everything from proper stretching techniques, to drills for the runners. After each stretching session the runners participate in varying degrees of running or walking.

According to DeRose, beginners run or walk for 15 to 20 minutes, while the veteran runners run for 30-50 minutes.

The practice sessions are open to all who want to participate. Athletes are encouraged to bring proper running attire and water.

DeRose emphasized that they will run rain or shine, but obviously not in a thunder or lightning storm.

"If it storms prior to or during practice we will move to the gym," he said.

Mandatory practice will begin on Aug. 1, according to DeRose,

All athletes planning on competing this fall will be required to have a current physical and insurance on file.
