Dawson County High School varsity baseball coach Jimmy Pruett breathed a sigh of relief after Saturday's final out against Banks County. His Tigers broke a five game losing streak, by beating the Leopards, 14-0.

The 14 runs were significant because in those five losses the team had managed only three runs.

More importantly, the game was a Region 7-AAA win that made the Tigers 10-8 and gave the team a solid hold on the fourth seed. The team's overall record is 12-11.

Jeffrey Partington pitched a masterful game on Saturday. He spread out three hits over four innings pitched to pick up the win. Elijah Fitts pitched the final inning for Dawson County.

Partington also recorded four strikeouts.

Offensively, the Tigers pounded out 15 hits. Four of those hits were for extra bases including two homeruns, a grand slam by Logan Burt and a solo-shot by Jacob Wilkie in the 11-run fourth inning.

Wilkie was perfect on the day. He went 4-for-4 with three RBIs.

Hunter Wehunt also had a great day at the plate for the Tigers. He went 3-for-3 with two doubles and a single. He was also hit by a pitch.

Banks County threatened in the first inning after putting runners on first and second base with one out. A line shot at Tiger third baseman Hunter Wehunt and a quick throw to first base resulted in a double play that ended the inning.

Dawson County took a first inning lead at 1-0. Burt led off the inning with a single. He then stole second base and scored a run on a double by Wilkie.

The Tigers added two more runs in the third frame. Wilkie led off the inning with a screamer down the third base line. Brody Chester then sacrificed Wilkie's pinch runner, Coates, to second base. Rogers then singled, scoring Coates from second. After a hit batsman, Wehunt, and an error at second base, Dawson County loaded the bases. Mitchell Putnam hit a fly ball to left field that sacrificed Rogers in from third to make the score, 3-0.

The offense then exploded in the fourth inning. Dawson County's first 11 batters reached base for 11 runs and the route was on.

The game was called in the fifth inning due to the mercy rule.

The game on Saturday was also Senior Day. Seniors recognized during the event were: David Chester, Wehunt, Wilkie, Jacob Partington, Mitchell Putnam and Elijah Fitts.

Pruett's team has three games remaining, all region match-ups.

Monday the team traveled to Fannin County, Wednesday the team will go to East Hall before finishing the regular season up at home on Friday against Buford.

The Tigers have split with East Hall this season and won both games with Fannin County.
