Entering the third year of its existence, the Dawson County High School swim team is gearing up for its upcoming season and Coach Linda Sperin is excited.
“I am excited to get these guys back in the water,” Sperin said. “I am hoping our team will be growing this year and that makes me even more excited. I am expecting everyone to keep improving and swim events that they didn’t swim last year.”
Sperin is looking for the program to expand both in number of swimmers and events despite the fact the team must travel to Cumming for practice three nights a week.
Returning swimmers Garrett Perez, Logan Starr, Carter Rexroat, Nathan Frazier and Matthew Wood have been running, lifting weights and swimming in preparation for the season’s official start of practices on Oct. 16, according to Sperin.
The group is also actively involved in helping Sperin generate excitement and interest in the program.
“The boys have really been talking with other students trying to get them interested,” Sperin said. “I have seven new students that I know of that say they are interested in swimming. I hope this will happen. We didn’t have any girl swimmers last year, but I am expecting a few this year.”
Any high school age student interested in participating can contact Sperin at lsperin@dawson.k12.ga.us.
The season opens with a Nov. 16 meet at Calhoun.
