Successful boys season remembered

The 2012 boys' soccer awards were held May 20 at the Dawsonville Municipal Complex.

Coach Jed Lacey's team finished the season with a 10-8 record.

The Tigers came in fourth in Region 8-AA, and qualified for the state playoffs.

The team fell 2-1 to North Murray to end the season.

After an opening welcome by athletic director Grady Turner and the invocation by Chad Rogers the awards presentation was held.

Lacey and assistant coach Benji Edwards presented the awards.

Accepting the Rising Tiger award was ninth grader Drake Garrison from the junior varsity team.

Winning academic awards were Sam Wentworth and Cody Hall.

Varsity award winners were: Best Support-Chris Bywaletz; Offensive-Josh Lund and Brandon Lund; Defensive-Gunnar Armstrong; Coach's Award-Stanton Rogers; and Iron Tiger-Jose Miranda.

Winning the Golden Boot, similar to an MVP award, was senior Cody Hall.

Members of this year's team were: Seniors - James Carr, Cody Hall, Stanton Rogers and Sam Wentworth. Juniors - Gunnar Armstrong, Chris Bywaletz, Josh Lund and Jose Miranda. Sophomores - Mason Carr, Jacob Miller, Bryan Colin, Bailey Reins, Brooks Fulford, Jake Smith, Logan Hayes, Austin Stewart, Drew Kellar, Scotty Zadernak and Ben Leaver. Freshmen: Zach Arceneaux, Salazar Mendoza, Michael Blythe, Josh Sage, Dalton Edwards, Randy Schultz, Drake Garrison, Nathan Shelp, Kevin Gonzalez, Logan Spindle, Kyle Hayes, Josh Trammell, Brandon Lund, Jose Zuniga and Keagan Matthews.

Managers on this year's team were Kaylin Millar, Paige Reese and Peyton Louden.

This year's coaching staff included Chess Hamby, Benji Edwards, Dane Trusterud, George Graves and Elizabeth Waite.
