Head Coach Jimmy Pruett and his Dawson County Lady Tigers’ softball team lost an exciting game against Pickens County High School in Jasper last Wednesday, 3-2.

With the loss, Dawson moves to 4-3 on the season.

The Lady Tigers scored first to go ahead 1-0 after a half inning of play.

Leadoff hitter Tiffany Rowan reached first after being hit by a pitch from Nettes pitcher Erica Hutson.

Lady Tiger catcher Kimberly Wallace sacrificed Rowan to second on a great bunt. Rowan crossed home plate after a single by freshman Jenna Abbott.

Pickens answered in the bottom of the first inning with a run of their own to tie the score 1-1 off starting Lady Tiger pitcher Cheyenne Bennett.

The Lady Tigers threatened in three of the next four innings, but it seemed they couldn’t get a timely hit.

The Nettes took the lead in their half of the fourth inning.

With a runner at first, reaching on an error, Pickens batter Kelli Johnson delivered a hit scoring Megan Dixon from third base. Pickens led 2-1.

Pickens picked up another run in the fifth inning extending their lead to 3-1.

Two great plays by Lady Tiger catcher Wallace prevented Pickens from scoring more runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Wallace picked off two runners on third, erasing potential scoring threats by the Nettes.

Dawson added a run in the top of the sixth inning. With two outs, Bennett singled to left field. Pruett employed a pinch runner for Bennett, who scored on a double by Nikki Dean. The Lady Tigers cut the score to 3-2.

The Lady Tigers were unable to score in the seventh inning, ending the contest.

Pruett and his team will be off until Sept. 3, when the team will play host to East Jackson in a crucial Region 8-AA match-up.
