Spring sports hold banquets

The spring sports teams held their end of year banquets over the last two weeks.

  

The senior awards banquet was held last night. The event is held to recognize seniors who have devoted their time over the last four years to their individual sport. Coaches take a letter from the mascot, Tigers, and give a small speech about a topic relevant to their players.

  

Below is a list of award winners from each spring sport.

  

Tennis presented trophies to members on the boys and girls teams.

  

Head Coach Rick Land gave the boy’s MVP to Jesse Cash, Most Improved to Nick Marsh and the Tiger Award to Andy King.

  

Land also awarded trophies to the following Lady Tigers: Jessica Abe as the MVP, Lora Brown as the Most Improved and Krista Morgan received the Tiger Award.

  

Varsity Baseball Head Coach Jimmy Pruett does something different at his ceremony.

  

Pruett recognizes the entire team and only gave his two seniors, Jacob Barr and Ren Buttram, awards.

  

Coaches Shari Chastain and Van Samples held the golf banquet at the Gathering Place restaurant on Wednesday, May 13.

  

Both coaches recognized a total of 17 letter-winners and four junior varsity players.

  

Coach Chastain presented awards to Charley Whitmire, girl’s low medalist, and Katie Stowers, coaches award.

  

Coach Samples gave trophies to Cody Palmer for low medalist and Wesley Bearden, most improved.

  

The girls’ soccer teams presented several awards at their banquet last Friday at City Hall.

  

Awards were given to Vanessa Stowers (Most Valuable Attacker), Kelsey Gravitt (Most Valuable Defender), Sydney Cox (Iron Tiger), Melissa Edwards (Coaches Award) and Lindsey Vinson (Most Valuable Player).

  

Head Coach Rick Corwin also gave recognition to Morgan Huber and Emily Stowers from the junior varsity team.

  

Head Coach Jed Lacey presented his awards two weeks ago at City Hall for the boys’ soccer team. Lacey and his troops lost 11 seniors from this year’s team and will have only one senior returning.

  

Lacey presented several accolades, including: Ethan Brown - MVP; Alex Cote - Offensive MVP; David Scully - Defensive MVP; Evan Weatherford and Cody Tobias - Iron Tiger; Dane Trosterud - Coaches Award; Sam Wentworth and Cody Hall - JV Rising Tigers.

  

Lacey also presented an award to Mauricio Escobar for being Top Scorer for the year. Totally Soccer sports store presented Escobar with a $100 gift certificate for his accomplishment.
