Jimmy Pruett and the Dawson County Lady Tiger varsity softball team seems to be peaking at the right time.
The Lady Tigers have won 10 of their last 12 games, culminating with a 9-2 win over Fannin County in the team’s last regular season game.
Pruett’s team is currently on a 5-game winning streak.
The team finished the regular season with a 15-9 overall record and 4-4 record in Region 8-AA.
Dawson is preparing for the 8-AA Region tournament. The tournament will be held at North Oconee High School.
The Lady Tigers will have a #5-seed in what arguably could be the toughest region in the state overall.
Three teams are state ranked, with the likes of North Oconee, which is #5 (21-6-1), East Jackson #9 (21-7-1) and Union County #10 (20-9-1).
“We will have a lot of work to do,” Pruett said. “You never know, we are getting hot at the right time.”
The Lady Tigers played #4 ranked Jefferson yesterday at 2 p.m. Results were not available as of press time.
Earlier this season Dawson lost to the Lady Dragons 4-0. The game was tight until the sixth inning when errors doomed the Lady Tigers.
“It will be a tough ball game, but if we can limit errors and get a timely hit we will be OK. Brad (Puckett-Jefferson head coach) does a great job with them and they will be prepared,” Pruett said.
If Dawson won on Tuesday they will turn around and play again today.
Pruett and his staff of Nickie Rogers and Mark Ragsdale, work very hard to prepare their team.
Members of this year’s team are: Sydney Crumley, Kimberly Wallace, Sydney Cox, Kayla Grizzle, Cheyenne Bennett, Brea Haygood, Tiffany Rowan, Amber Youngblood, Katie Pulley, Ashley Butterworth, Amanda Gravitt, Dana Edwards and Morgan Huber.
