The Dawson County Lady Tigers could not stay away from the plate on Wednesday, Sept. 9, as they beat the West Hall Lady Spartans, 18-1.
The team would only need to tally four hits in the game, two coming from Annslee Kirby. The other two were by Olivia Martinez and Reese Moore.
However, 16 walks and four hit-by-pitches would leave plenty of baserunners for the Lady Tigers to continue scoring runs.
Martinez led the team with three runs batted in, with Kirby and Moore both driving in two runs at the plate as well.
Moore pitched in the game, not allowing a hit over the entire game. She struck out four batters.
The game only went three innings due to a mercy rule being in effect, which is when the rules deemed one team too far behind to come back and win the game.
The victory makes the Lady Tigers 3-7 on the season, with a 2-5 record in region play. Martinez leads the team in hits (12) and runs scored (11). Bella Henson has the best average on the team (.367) and Henson, Martinez and Layne Bailey all have eight runs batted in, tied for the most on the team.
