Simpson, Wilson travel to Albany

Two Dawson County High School track athletes participated in the class AAA state meet last week in Albany.

The meet, held May 9-11 brought together elite athletes from each classification from throughout Georgia.

Katelynn Simpson ran in the 300-meter hurdles for head coach Arron Haynes' team. Simpson finished in 15th place in the preliminary round with a time of 52.11.

The state champion in the event is Kayla Pryor from Cedar Grove with a time of 43.07.

Representing the Lady Tigers in the discus was Hayden Wilson.

Wilson threw 102'8" for an eighth place finish.

Winning the discus was Haley Reynolds from Gordon Central with a throw of 120'8."

Westminster won the state team title with a score of 72, barely edging out Greater Atlanta Christian with 70 points.

With the conclusion of the state event, the track season is finished.
