Seven Dawson County Lady Tiger soccer players received honors last week by The Times of Gainesville. The Lady Tigers, under coach Jed Lacey, completed last season with a 17-3 record.
Dawson County was eliminated from state play by Greater Atlanta Christian.
Named to the first team all-area were seniors: Morgan Huber and Emily Stowers.
Both players were defenders for the Lady Tigers.
Huber and Stowers were part of a stifling defense that recorded 15 shutouts this past season, setting a new school record.
Huber was also named to first team in Region 8-AA. She also played in the DiVarsity All-Star game recently.
Stowers was also honored by being named to the Region 8-AA first team. Stowers is a two-time MVP for Lacey's team.
Winning All-Area player-of-the-year was Cassidy Elrod from Flowery Branch High School.
Elrod, a senior, scored 27 goals with 17 assists for the Lady Falcons. She was also named Player-of-the-Year in 8-AAAA. Elrod has signed to play for Georgia Southern next year.
Joining Stowers, Huber and Elrod on the All-Area first team were: Liza Carpenter, senior, Gainesville; Hartley Carter, junior, Gainesville; Mary Catherine Dempsey, junior, Gainesville; Lauren Dunn, senior, Flowery Branch; Bethany Johnson, senior, Johnson; Alexis Rebollar, junior, Chestatee; Lindsey White, senior, Buford; and Brooke Reed, senior, West Hall.
Lady Tiger Brittany Duffy was the only Dawson County player named to the second team all-area.
Duffy, a midfielder, scored 11 goals with 8 assists this season.
Named honorable mention for Dawson County were Taylor Bennett, freshman, McKay Shively, freshman, Jade Perry, junior, and Brooke Duffy, sophomore.
Girls Coach-of-the-Year went to Gainesville's Mark Wade.
Sydney Baird, junior, Jackson County; Morgan Glenn, senior, Flowery Branch; Caitlin Hollis, senior, Buford; Rachel Kline, senior, West Hall; Alex Lawson, junior, North Hall; Alex Lee, junior, Flowery Branch; Yesseli Nunez, junior, Gainesville; Katie Phillips, sophomore, Jackson County; Kasey Tauber, junior, Lumpkin County; and Jessi Vaverka, sophomore, Buford joined Brittany Duffy on the second team.
