The junior varsity girls’ basketball team opened the season with a hard fought 59-41 loss to Towns County on Nov. 19.

The visiting Lady Indians used a stifling, full court press to build a 34-24 lead at halftime.

Towns went on a third quarter offensive spurt to put the game out of reach, 50-31.

“We are going to get better,” said Head Coach Anne Hyams. “We are playing several ninth graders, so we have some things we need to work on.”

Kacie Bearden led all Lady Tiger scorers with 11 points. The only other Dawson player to hit double digits in scoring was Madison Shope with 10 points.

Also scoring for Dawson were Hayden Wilson-8 points, Whitney Glover-5 points, Samie Smith added 4 points, and Alison Honea contributed 3 points.

The team is currently 0-1 on the season.

The Lady Tigers will play next on Dec. 3 at home against Gilmer County. Game time will be 4 p.m.
