Nine boys selected to all-area

The Dawson County boys soccer team continues to mount accolades from last season's 15-3 soccer season. Nine Tiger players were selected by The Times of Gainesville for All-Area Recognition.

Junior Brandon Lund was named to the first team. Lund had a successful year with 22 goals, a new school record, and 15 assists. He was also named to the 7-AAA All-Region team.

Cole Edwards, senior, was selected to the Second Team All-Area. The 7-AAA All-Region selection completed the season with 14 goals and 9 assists.

Named to the honorable mention team were Brooks Fulford, David Velasquez, Sal Mendoza, Josh Sage, Austin Stewart, Ben Leaver and Timothy Moody.

Dawson County completed the 2014 season with a final ranking of No. 4 in Class AAA. The Tigers were knocked out of the playoffs by St. Pius X, 2-1, on penalty kicks. St. Pius X went on to capture the Class AAA state championship.

Joining Lund on the first team All-Area was Fabian Abarca from Johnson.

Abarca was named Player of the Year. The sophomore forward scored 31 goals, area leader, and had 10 assists for the state runner-up Knights.

Rounding out the first team were Luis Deltoro, senior forward from Johnson, Barut Perez (Johnson), Ricardo Gomez (Gainesville), Junior Avalos (North Hall), Enrique Castrejon (North Hall), Jordan Moreno (West Hall), Josh Booker (Lumpkin County) who has signed with University of North Georgia, Christian Esclaria (Gainesville) who has signed with Truett-McConnell College, and goalie Emmanuel Andrade (East Hall).

Selected to the second team All-Area were Cristian Felix (Chestatee), Nick Biasi (Flowery Branch), Cesar Regalo (Gainesville), Israel Avila (Johnson), Omar Castillo (West Hall), Jake Carter (North Hall), Eduardo Magana (West Hall), Josh Panter (Gainesville), Isaac Henry (Johnson) and goalie Gage Turner (Gainesville).
