The Tiger offense was missing during two games last week with Gilmer and Habersham Central.

Despite only getting seven hits in the two games, Dawson managed to defeat Gilmer, 8-4, before losing in Cornelia, 12-2, in a 5-inning mercy rule game.

With the split, Dawson is currently 3-1 on the season.

“We have got to find a way to generate some runs,” said Head Coach Jimmy Pruett.

The Tigers will begin Region 8-AA play at home with Banks County Thursday.

First pitch will be at 5:30 p.m.

On March 15, the team will travel to Blue Ridge to face Fannin County. First pitch will be at 4:30 p.m.

Dawson got off to a quick start against Gilmer. The team scored four runs in the first inning.

The Tigers loaded the bases on four Gilmer walks before left fielder Tyler King stepped to the plate. King took a fastball and deposited the pitch over the left centerfield wall for a grand slam.

Gilmer answered in the third inning with a homer off starting pitcher Josh Harper. The hit tied the game at 4-4.

Harper pitched three innings and struck out four batters before Jeff Partington was brought on in relief.

Partington used a variety of pitches, keeping the Bobcats timing off at the plate, to pitch four scoreless innings and pick up the win.

Pruett’s team scored four runs in the fifth inning to put the game out of reach.

Once again Gilmer’s pitcher loaded the bases after hitting  two batsmen, Logan Burt and Harper, and two walks, Tyler Thurmond and Luke Willamson.

The walk to Williamson drove in one run.

Singles by King and Chester, two RBI’s, drove in the other three runs to give Dawson an 8-4 lead.

King finished the game with five RBI’s on two of Dawson’s three hits for the game. The other hit came off the bat of Chester.

On Wednesday the team traveled to Cornelia to face AAAA-Habersham Central.

The Raiders pushed across runs in every inning except the fourth to win 12-2.

Habersham scored three runs in the first and second innings. The Raiders added five more runs in the third to take a commanding 11-1 lead.

The Tigers managed a single run in the third and fourth innings.

In the third inning, Colton Chester led off the inning with a double. Logan Burt hit a clutch single with two outs to drive in Chester from second.

A leadoff double by Kaleb Holbrook in the fourth led to Dawson’s second run. Tyler King singled with two outs to pick up the RBI that scored Holbrook.

Tyler Thurmond took the loss on the mound for Dawson County.
