Dawson County Lady Tigers Softball pitcher Maggie Schandera formally committed to play softball at the next level as she signed her scholarship with Georgia Highlands College in Cartersville on Nov. 3.
Schandera first pitched for the varsity team as a freshman and took over the starting role in her junior year. During her career she posted a 76 percent strike ratio over 416.4 innings (a total of 4,071 strikes) while recording 228 strike-outs to only 25 walks and was named the Dawson County News Player of the Week multiple times during her time as a Lady Tiger.
She is the daughter of Lamar and Connie Schandera.
Currently maintaining a GPA of 4.26, Schandera is planning to enroll in the athletic training program at Georgia Highlands with an eye on majoring in physical therapy.
She was also attracted to the school specifically because of the softball program.
“I will be starting right away,” Schandera said. “And the school is considering the possibility of expanding to a four-year program. I would definitely be interested in that.”
