The Lady Tigers tennis season came to an end in the first round of the Class AAA state tournament with a loss at Franklin County April 18.

It was the Lady Tigers’ fourth straight state tournament appearance, but they haven’t been able to get over the hump with first-round exits in all four previous appearances.

Dawson County fought hard but got swept by top-seeded Franklin County in very windy conditions, a condition that played into the hands of the Lady Lions.

“(We) put up a good fight but didn't clinch a win,” Coach Stephanie Gibbs said. “The wind was crazy out there. There is lots of truth to home court advantage since their girls were able to get to the crazy balls.”

On Friday, No. 1 singles player Savanna Kennedy became the first tennis player in Dawson County High School history to sign a college scholarship as she will be attending Piedmont College in the fall.
