The Dawson County High School varsity girl’s soccer team lost its opening two matches of the season last week.

The Lady Tigers were defeated by White County, 6-1, on Tuesday, and then lost to a very good Buford team, 7-0, on Friday.

“We are getting better and will be good when region gets here. I am still learning the girls and they are still learning my system,” said Head Coach Jed Lacey last week. “The basketball girls just got back today. They have not even practiced with us and played tonight. I had to see what they could do by watching them tonight,”

Katie Pritchard scored the lone goal for the Lady Tigers.

“I saw some good things tonight from a team with seven new starters in the lineup from last year,” Lacey said.

Lacey was also impressed with the play from Shelby Whitaker, Brittany Duffy and Pritchard.

“[Pritchard] is the real deal. I need to get her some help up front,” Lacey said.

Buford unleashed a barrage of goals against the Lady Tigers on Friday.

Dawson was holding strong at the three-minute mark before halftime when the offensive play of Buford led to several goals.

The Dawson defense gave up three penalty kicks during the contest.

“There is a good chance the girls just played the 2011 state champions. I do not know if their is a better team in AA in the state than Buford,” Lacey said.

The Lady Tigers will travel to Cross Keys this Friday for a 5:30 p.m. kickoff.
