The Dawson County High School girls basketball team will face a stiff test for the Class AAA state championship Saturday in Macon.

Awaiting the Lady Tigers, who knocked off Southwest Macon in the semifinals to advance the school's first title game in more than 20 years, is St. Pius X.

The Golden Lions from Atlanta boast a 29-3 overall record, including 14-0 in Region 6-AAA. The team, coached by Kyle Snipes, averages 56.3 points per game.

Tip off is set for 3 p.m. at the Macon Centreplex.

Dawson head coach Steve Sweat's Lady Tigers come into the game with a 27-5 overall record, 10-4 in region.

The Lady Tigers are the No. 2 seed from Region 7-AAA and average 58.5 points per game.

St. Pius defeated the region's top seed, Buford, 56-43 in the third round of the playoffs.

The Lady Tigers will look to use their inside-outside threat of sophomore Sheyenne Seabolt and senior Carly Gilreath to trump the play of St. Pius' outstanding guard combo of Asia Durr and Jasmine Carter.

Durr is considered among the best sophomore guards in the country. She averages nearly 21 points per game and has tallied 645 points on the season.

She also pulls down about seven rebounds each game and shoots 86 percent from the free throw line.

Carter, a junior, puts up 15 points per game and has scored 435 points this season. She's a 71 percent free throw shooter who averages 4.8 rebounds per contest.

For the Lady Tigers, senior point guard Gilreath, a USC-Aiken signee, sets the tone on offense. She averages about 15 points per game and has scored 478 points this season.

Sophomore Seabolt averages 13.7 points and 8.1 rebounds per contest.

The Golden Lions usually play a man-to-man defense, though Snipes has been known to mix in a combination zone from time to time.
