The Dawson County High School varsity girls' soccer team went undefeated at the Tournament of Champions in Jekyll Island last week.

The Lady Tigers defeated The Walker School, 5-1, Wheeler, 5-0 and Creekview, 1-0.

Coach Jed Lacey's team is currently 6-2 overall and ranked No. 3 in Class AAA.

"The girls played tremendously this weekend," Lacey said. "I thought we were going in the wrong direction before this weekend, but we made some adjustments mentally and physically and man did it pay off."

Against Walker (5-1-0) on March 12 Taylor Bennett recorded a hat trick with three goals.

Ivonne Maldonado and Emily Queen each added a goal in the win.

Friday's game with Wheeler (0-6-0) saw Bennett add two more goals.

Brooke Cagle and Mackenzie Callas also found the back of the net.

Tina Libao had the lone goal against Creekview (3-3-3).

"We went down to Jekyll this weekend knowing we had some good competition ahead of us. We are a very physical team so I knew we would not get pushed around. We came together down there and now we need to ride this wave to state," Lacey said.

He said the team made some adjustments that seemed to work out in the Lady Tigers' favor.

"Taylor Bennett had a great tournament with five goals. McKay Shively and Tina Libao had to make adjustments in their game by switching positions to see if that would set this team in motion and man did it. I thought Devon Coates did a great job running the defense and Anela Melton did a tremendous job in goal."

The Lady Tigers will travel to Fannin County (0-3-0) on Friday for a Region 7-AAA matchup.

Kickoff will be at 5:30 p.m. It will be the first region game of the season.
