The Dawson County Lady Tiger basketball team steamrolled Oglethorpe County, 64-5, and Cross Keys, 73-1, last week to get off to a quick 2-0 start.

It was a very impressive start for Head Coach Steve Sweat and his team after last season’s disappointing 4-22 finish. “It was good for the girls to get off to a good start,” commented Sweat.

The Lady Tigers jumped on Oglethorpe early, opening up a 21-1 lead at the end of one quarter.

Dawson’s defense was relentless, and held the Lady Patriots scoreless during the second and third quarters. The Lady Tigers extended their lead to 52-1 after three quarters of play.

“We got a chance to get everyone in the game,” said Sweat.

Dawson placed 12 different players in the scoring column, led by freshman Kenna Seitz with 10 points.

Also scoring for the Lady Tigers were: Morgan Bennett with 9-points, Kaitlyn Pain, Hannah Porter and Judith Hall each had 8-points; Alyss Woody tossed in 6-points, Amanda Sheriff had 4-points; Erin Gordon had 3-points, Natalie Parker, Jessi Phillips, Allie Costley and Carly Gilreath each contributed two points apiece.

Dawson was home again against Cross Keys last Friday night. The Lady Tigers pounded Cross Keys 73-1. The Lady Indians only managed a single point, which came in the second quarter.

Cross Keys is in the midst of a 64-game losing streak.

The game was over early, as Dawson opened up a 38-1 lead at halftime. Once again, Sweat was able to clear his bench as 13 different players scored.

Leading the team in scoring was Morgan Bennett with 11-points.

Jessi Phillips poured in 8-points; followed by Erin Gordon and Carly Gilreath with 7-points. Also scoring for the Lady Tigers were: Kenna Seitz and Nikki Dean with 6-points; Kaitlyn Pain with 5-points; Hannah Porter, Christian Daniel, Alyss Woody and Allie Costley with 4 points; Natalie Parker with 3-points; and Morgan Huber and Judith Hall with 2 points each.

The team has been in action this week, participating in the Hebron Thanksgiving Tournament. The Lady Tigers opened with Mt. Pisgah on Monday at 4 p.m. The score was not available at press time.

Dawson will travel to Cross Keys on Tuesday, Dec. 1 and Gilmer County on Friday, Dec. 4 before returning home on Saturday, Dec. 5 to take on Walnut Grove.
