The Dawson County Lady Tiger basketball team moved to 10-4 on the season with two wins last week.

On Wednesday, Head Coach Steve Sweat and his team came from behind and defeated Lambert High School, 49-43. Saturday’s game with Galloway was a rout with Dawson coming away with a comfortable 53-16 win.

The Region 8-AA game scheduled at North Oconee on Friday was cancelled due to icy road conditions. Tentatively it is rescheduled for Jan. 21 in Bogart.

It was a great way to start the second half of the season for Dawson County.

The Lady Tigers were down by five points at halftime, 23-18, to rally in the second half against first-year school Lambert, from Forsyth County, and take the victory.

Dawson used a 19-7 run in the third quarter, behind the scoring of Judith Hall and Jessi Phillips to take a 37-30 lead into the fourth quarter.

Hall and Phillips led all Lady Tiger scorers with 11 points each.

“Our girls fought hard to come back and take this win,” Sweat said. “This was a total team effort.”

Freshman Carly Gilreath also had a good game with seven points and three rebounds. Morgan Huber came off the bench and contributed six points.

Other scorers for Dawson were: Allie Costley-4; Christian Daniel-3; Morgan Bennett, Natalie Parker and Amanda Sheriff each scored two points. Kenna Seitz added one point in the win.

Pulling down rebounds were: Daniel, who led the team with seven; Seitz and Costley each had six rebounds apiece.

The Lady Tigers traveled to Atlanta on Saturday afternoon to face a 6-4 Galloway team from Region 5-A. It was never a contest, as Dawson jumped out to an 11-3 first quarter lead.

In the second quarter, Dawson didn’t allow Galloway to score and took a 24-3 advantage into the locker room.

Sweat’s team scored double digits in the third and fourth quarters, 11 and 18 points, to come away with a 53-18 victory.

Freshman guard Hannah Porter led all Lady Tigers scorers with 10 points. All 10 of Porter’s points came in the second half.

Bennett and Seitz also had good offensive games, with both players scoring nine points each. Dawson placed 11 players in the scoring column during the win.

Once again, Daniel was strong on the boards with eight rebounds to lead the team.

The Lady Tigers are off until Jan. 19 when they will travel to Rabun County High School.

The Lady Wildcats are currently undefeated with a 15-0 record.
