Ladies sprint into 2015 competition

The Dawson County High School girls' track team had a busy week last week with two meets at home.

On March 10 the Lady Tigers played host to Gainesville and Lumpkin County.

On March 12, the team hosted North Hall and Fannin County.

Coach Arron Haynes' Lady Tiger team defeated Lumpkin County, 60-44.5, before losing to Gainesville, 65.5-60.

Individual winners were: Discus - Savannah Haberkam (94'4"), 3,200 meters - Cassidy Lecours (13:55), 1,600 meters - Bailey Cotter (6:22), 400 meters - Ansley Costley (1:08), 100 meter high hurdles - Emily Hardesty (17:04) and 300 meter intermediate hurdles - Katelynn Simpson (54:45).

Finishing in second place were: 1,600 meters - Melanie Rimawi (6:28), 100 meter hurdles - Katelynn Simpson (17:73), 800 meters - Cotter (2:40), Hardesty (58:09) and the 4x400 relay team.

Thursday saw the Lady Tigers take two easy wins over North Hall, 99-50, and Fannin County, 99-22.

Capturing first place for Haynes' team was: High jump - Simpson (4'2"), long jump - Melanie Chumbley (14'1"), 3,200 meters - Lecours (13:35), 4x100 relay "A" team (55:04), 1,600 meters - Cotter (6:26), 400 meters - Costley (1:08), 100 meters - Camryn Geiger (13.17), 100 meter high hurdles - Hardesty (17:41), 800 meters - Cotter (2:41), 300 meter intermediate hurdles - Katelynn Simpson (54:46) and the 4x400 "A" team (4:50).

Runners-up in their events: Haberkam in the shot put and discus, Katie Gayosa in the long jump, triple jump - Sydney McGinnis, 4x100 "B" team, Melanie Rimawi - 800 meters and1,600 meters, Simpson - 100 meter high hurdles, 4x400 "B" team.

Dawson County will participate in the Greater Atlanta Christian Invitational on Saturday in Norcross.

Field events will begin at 9 a.m.
