The Dawson County High School varsity Lady Tiger soccer team picked up its first win of the season with a 1-0 victory over Pickens County High School Feb. 22.

Katie Pritchard scored the only goal for Dawson at the 13:54 mark of the second half. The goal was assisted by teammate Morgan Huber.

“This game will always be special to me because this was my first win as the girls coach at Dawson County. The most important thing is it was a victory for the girls. They played their hearts out. You can see they are starting to get it, the system we run. They were making passes all over the field and working together as a team. They deserved to win tonight, they left it all on the field,” said Head Coach Jed Lacey.

Defensively, the Lady Tigers were airtight with Pickens not getting a shot on goal the entire game. The defense was led by Ashley Avery, Allie Costley, Amanda Sheriff and Kenna Seitz.

On Friday, the team traveled to Cross Keys High School in Atlanta. The Lady Tigers tasted success again. The team came away with a 6-1 victory.

Pritchard scored a hat trick, scoring two goals in the first half and one goal in the second half. She currently has a team leading five goals on the season.

Dawson took a commanding 3-0 lead at half. Along with Pritchard, Sydney Crumley scored off a corner kick in the first half.

Jade Perry, Pritchard and Brooke Shively scored in the second half. The goals marked the first of the season for both Perry and Shively.

“The defense again did a great job in taking everything away from Cross Keys. We had one bad break down in the second half on defense and Cross Keys capitalized on it,” Lacey said.

“This is the best we looked all year. We are really getting it together in a hurry. Having so many new starters this year and having a new system to learn, we knew it would take some time for it all to gel and it looks like we are starting to put it together for a big push right into the beginning of the region season that will be coming up soon,” he added.

With the two wins, Dawson currently has a 2-2 record. The Lady Tigers will play host to Stephens County this Friday. Kickoff will be at 5:30 p.m.
