The Lady Tiger basketball team picked up two big wins last week.
Head Coach Steve Sweat’s team defeated The Galloway School by a huge 62-26 margin on Tuesday. On Friday, the Lady Tigers won a hard fought game against AAA opponent Gilmer County by a 53-42 score.
With the two wins Dawson currently has an overall record of 3-2.

Against Galloway (2-3) the game was never in question. The Lady Tigers jumped out to a huge first quarter lead. 19-2.
In the second quarter the teams traded baskets. Dawson outscored the Lady Scots by a slim 18-15 margin. The Lady Tigers held a 37-17 halftime advantage.
Defensively in the second half Dawson clamped down on Galloway and allowed them only five points in the third quarter and four points in the final quarter to come away with the 36-point victory.
“We were able to play better defense in the second half, which I was pleased with,” Sweat said.
“Ten of our 14 players that dress on the varsity were able to score for us tonight,” he added.
Carly Gilreath and Natalie Parker were co-leaders in scoring for the Lady Tigers with 10 points each. Gilreath also dished out three assists from her point guard position.
Parker was a force defensively and came away with five steals.
Morgan Bennett and Kacie Bearden also had great games on offense. Both Bennett and Bearden had nine points each.
Finishing the scoring were Kenna Seitz with six points, Allie Costley with five points, Morgan Huber and Kristi Hyams had four points apiece. Kimberly Wallace added three points and Jessi Phillips rounded out the scoring with two points.
Gilmer used a full court press to try and rattle the Lady Tigers in Friday’s game.
Both teams went up and down the floor in a fairly evenly matched game.
The Lady Tigers outscored Gilmer (1-5) in each quarter for the 11-point win.
Dawson held a slim 11-10 lead after one period of play. The Lady Tigers picked up the scoring in the second quarter and outscored the Lady Bobcats 15-10 to take a 26-20 advantage at half.
Sweat’s team fought hard in the second half against a very tough Gilmer team.
The Lady Tigers were able to outscore the Lady Bobcats 27-22 in the final two quarters, which was good enough to get the win.
Nine different players scored for Dawson County. The team was led by Hannah Porter, who was the only Dawson player in double figures, with 10 points.
Porter was followed by Carly Gilreath and Morgan Huber each with eight points, Kimberly Wallace and Natalie Parker each contributed seven points apiece in the win.
Rounding out the scoring for the Lady Tigers were Allie Costley with five points, Kenna Seitz added four points, Morgan Bennett with three points and Jessi Phillips with one point.
“It was a hard fought win for us,” Sweat said.
Allie Costley had a big night on the boards. She pulled down nine rebounds for the Lady Tigers.
It will be Park and Recreation Night this Saturday as the Lady Tigers play host to Hebron Christian. Tip-off will be at 6 p.m.
