Ladies compete in Commerce

The Dawson County High School varsity girls cross country team finished in eighth place at the Bob Roller Invitational Meet in Commerce last week.

The Lady Tigers posted 254 team points at the Oct. 18 event.

Capturing the team title was Chestatee High School with 73 points.

Finishing in second place was North Forsyth with 106 total points.

There were 22 teams in the race.

Leading Dawson County was Savanna Estes with a time of 22:00.85.

Estes crossed the finish line in 35th place in the 5,000-meter race. The time was a personal best for Estes.

Just behind Estes was teammate Cassidy Lecours with a 38th place finish and a time of 22:03.

Lecours also posted a personal best time.

Winning the individual title was Stephanie Murphy from Hebron Christian Academy with a time of 18:59.21.

Runner-up in the meet was Lochlain Corliss from North Forsyth with a time of 19:14.83.

There were 150 runners in the event.

According to head coach Brian DeRose, all Dawson County runners that competed in the event came away with new personal best times.

Jade Perry finished the course with a time of 22:28.

Perry was followed by teammates Taylor Grindstaff (22:41), Dana Little (23:57) and Christine Schmid (24:27).

The meet was the last of the regular season for the Lady Tigers.

The team will compete next in the Region 7-AAA race Nov. 1 at Unicoi State Park in Helen.
