The Dawson County junior varsity baseball team defeated Pickens County 2-1 last week to pick up its first win of the season.
Dawson was able to hold on to the Feb. 28 win with good pitching and solid defense.
Logan Crumley started on the mound for the Tigers and threw a great game.
He left the game scoreless with two runners on base in the fifth inning.
Brody Chester came on in relief.
Crumley made a great play at third base with the bases loaded that kept the Dragons off the scoreboard in the fifth inning.
Pickens County took a 1-0 lead in the top of the sixth following a hit batsmen and an error. The Tigers bounced back in the bottom of the inning.
Keaton Toal led off the bottom of the sixth with a line drive base hit to center field.
Taylor Gaddis walked and the Tigers had runners at first and second with no outs.
J.T. Eggert singled to drive in Toal and tie the game.
Gaddis scored following a wild pitch to give the Tigers a 2-1 lead after six innings.
Chester finished off the Dragons in order in the seventh inning.
Crumley made another great play from third base and Cooper Kicklighter dug out the throw in the dirt to end the game and preserve the victory for the Tigers.
Offensively the Tigers were led by Toal, who went 2-3 with a run, Martin was 2-3, Eggert went 1-2 with an RBI, and Crumley was 1-3.
Dawson will take the mound next at 5:30 p.m. Monday at Lumpkin County.
