The junior varsity boys basketball team had a successful camp at Berry College on June 21-22.
Coach Wes Greer and his team finished with an impressive 5-1 record.
The team's only loss came in overtime to a very strong Dalton team.
Dawson County began the camp with two strong performances against Model and Cedar Bluff, Ala.
The Tigers destroyed both teams by more than 30 points.
Their loss occurred later that evening with the exciting game against the Catamounts.
"I thought we played a solid game against Model," Greer said. "The team continued to play great offense and defense in our second game. Despite losing to Dalton by two points, our guys fought from behind the entire game. I was extremely proud of how the boys competed throughout the day on Thursday."
On Friday the Tigers picked up wins against Armuchee, Coosa and Our Lady of Mercy.
The Tigers were sluggish in the first half against Armuchee, but in the second half the team held its opponents scoreless for the first 12 minutes of the second half to pull out the win.
Against Coosa the Tiger guards showed patience against a tough full court press.
"The boys worked the ball up the court and made good decisions," Greer said. "Coosa struggled with the 3-2 defense and ended up losing by 22 points."
In the final game of the camp, defense was the deciding factor again.
Our Lady of Mercy had a hard time solving the Tiger's 3-2 zone and lost by 18 points.
"We gained a lot of experience during June and I am proud of how the guys preformed this week. The program is going in the right direction and I am proud to be a part of it all," Greer said.
