The Dawson County High School Lady Tigers junior varsity softball team dropped a 6-3 decision to Lumpkin County Aug. 17.

Following the loss, Dawson County is currently 0-2 on the year.

Becca Monkus played a great game defensively for the Lady Tigers. She recorded five of the nine outs by Lumpkin County. She was also a force at the plate with a sharp double to left center.

Lady Tiger Samantha Keeney knocked in two RBI's with a single.

Anela Melton also singled to drive in Dawson's third run.

"We played much better than we did against North Forsyth," said coach Nickie Rogers. "Our players are starting to come around."

Pitching for Dawson County was Brooke Wende who threw the first two innings before being replaced by Taylor Shirley for one inning.

The game was shortened for time.

Dawson will play two consecutive home games this week before going on the road.

The Lady Tigers will play host to Rabun County on Thursday and Lumpkin County on Friday. Both games will start at 4:30 p.m.

Next Tuesday the team will travel to Gainesville for a game against East Hall. First pitch will also be at 4:30 p.m.
