Tigers track team competes in first meet

The Dawson County boys’ and girls’ track teams competed in their first tri-meet of the season Thursday, March 5 at Pickens County High School. Gilmer County was the third team at the meet.

  

On the girls’ side, Dawson finished with a team total of 48 points behind both Pickens and Gilmer counties who tied with 61 points.

  

The Tiger team finished in third place with 40 points behind first place Pickens County with 76.5 and Gilmer County with 56 points.

  

Taking first in their events for both teams were: TJ Byrd in the pole vault with a leap of 11’6”, Madalyn Walters in the 1,600-meter with a time of 6:04 and the 800-meter posting a time of 2:44, and Judith Hall in the 100-meter with a time of 14.47.

  

Finishing in second place in the 16-event meet were: TJ Byrd (discus), Morgan Bennett (high jump and 400-meter), Kimberly Wallace (long jump and 100-meter), Eian Perry (long jump and 100-meter), Christina Parker (3,200 meter), John Markley (400-meter and 200-meter) and Judith Hall (200-meter).

  

Both teams competed in the Eagle Invitational at East Jackson High School last Saturday.
