Five Tiger wrestlers were honored during Senior Night last Tuesday. Timothy Blythe, Jaziel Bustamante, Kyle Maciolek, Casey McGinnis and David Wood wrestled their last home match against Gilmer County.
Gilmer was a very tough opponent for the Tigers. The Bobcats were state champions in both traditional and duals last year.
Dawson fell to Gilmer, 63-10.
Picking up wins were: James Evans (112) with a pin over Joshua Harrison and Andrew Lovingood (140) with a 13-2 major decision over Michael Norman.
Last Friday, the Tigers traveled to North Hall High School in Gainesville. The Trojans have a strong team and defeated the Tigers by a 50-28 score.
Dawson wrestled several close and intense matches, but the Trojans proved too strong.
Picking up wins were: Evans (112) with a major 12-0 decision, Levi Pressley (130) with a pin, Wood (135) by pin, Lovingood (145) by pin, and Preston Adams (152) with a pin.
On Jan. 22 the Tigers traveled to Chattooga High School for the Northwest Georgia Duals. Dawson went 4-1 and picked up a second place finish.
The Tigers defeated Pepperell, 58-24, Armuchee, 58-16, Cedartown, 72-12 and Adairsville, 51-27, before falling to Model, 58-21.
Picking up points against Pepperell were: Anthony Underwood (103) with a 11-2 major decision, James Evans (112) pin, Timothy Blythe (119) pin, Levi Pressley (130) pin, Charlie Short (140) forfeit, Preston Adams (152) pin, Evan Kells (160) pin, Danny Maciolek (171) pin, Tobie Lumpkin (189) pin and Colton Chester (215) pin.
In the Armuchee match, Blythe (119), David Wood (135), Andrew Lovingood (140), Jazil Bustamante and Casey McGinnis (125) won by forfeit. Pinning their opponents were: Adams (152), Maciolek (171), Lumpkin (189) and Chester (215). Kells won 13-4 to win by major decision.
In the loss to Model the Tigers earned 21 points.
Winning matches were: Evans (112) 4-2 decision, Lovingood (140) pin, Adams (152) forfeit and Kyle Maciolek (171) pin.
The Tigers bounced back with a huge 60-point win over Cedartown. Earning points were: Underwood-forfeit, Evans-pin, Drew Thomason-forfeit, McGinnis-forfeit, Pressley-forfeit, Wood-pin, Lovingood-pin, Adams-pin, Kells-pin, K. Maciolek-pin, Lumpkin-forfeit and Bustamante-forfeit.
With the final match of the day Dawson disposed of Adairsville. Underwood (103)-forfeit, Evans (112) 8-5 decision, Pressley (130)-pin, Wood (135)-pin, Lovingood (140)-forfeit, Travis Dawson (145)-forfeit, Adams (152)-pin, Kells (160)-pin and Lumpkin (189)-pin all won their matches.
