The Dawson County High School boys' golf team traveled to Hilton Head, S.C. during Spring Break to take on some stiff competition.

Coach Wes Greer's squad won two out of the three matches played.

"We had a great time in Hilton Head this week. Got to meet some nice new people and play golf on some beautiful courses," Greer said.

On April 7, the Tigers played one of the best teams in South Carolina, Hilton Head Islands High School.

The match was played on the course at Palmetto Hall Plantation.

Hilton Head came away with the 324-367 victory in the 18-hole event.

The Tigers struggled with the water and hot conditions on the course.

Hunter Burt and Justin Moore posted the best scores with matching 89s.

"The boys were very disappointed with how they played, but enjoyed the company and the course," Greer said.

On April 8 the team drove to Lady's Island Country Club to play a tri-match with Batter Creek and Whale Branch high schools.

The Tigers played much better on day two in the 9-whole match and came away with a shot total of 161 to Battery Creek's 242 and Whale Branch's 234.

Jake Phillips, David Ford and Moore all posted 40s, while Burt carded a 41.

"The trip was a lot of fun and the boys really enjoyed playing new courses. We hope our hosts will come see us next year so we can show them the same hospitality they showed us."

The Tigers will be back in action today at Crystal Falls Golf Club in a tri-match with Lumpkin and Fannin counties.

The match will be 18-holes and will begin at 4 p.m.
