Golfers tee off against Gilmer and Lumpkin

The Dawson County High School golf teams split their matches last week. Both teams defeated Gilmer County at Crystal Falls last Tuesday before dropping a match with Lumpkin County at Achasta Golf Club in Dahlonega on Thursday.

 

Tuesday’s match at Crystal Falls was cut short due to darkness, but it didn’t matter as the girls team won, in a 6-hole match, 73-82, and the boys team came away, in 7-holes, with a 134-171 win.

 

Tayler Hasbrouck led the girls with a 34, followed by Becca Dotson with a 39, Rachel Dotson and Tatum Turner both finished with a 41.

 

John Chameli led the Tigers with a 30 through 7-holes. He was followed by Casey Compton with a 34, Wesley Bearden and Levi Samples both shot 35, Caleb Samples and Logan Lewis came in with a 43 each.

 

Both teams suffered their first losses of the season against Lumpkin County on Thursday. The girls lost by a score of 106-115 and the boys dropped a 162-173 decision.

 

Wesley Bearden led the boys with a 1-under par 35. John Chameli added a 45, followed by Caleb Samples with a 47 and Casey Compton with a 49.

 

On the girls’ side, Tayler Hasbrouk came home with a 56. Rachel Dotson was the second leading scorer with a 59, followed by Becca Dotson with a 62 and Tatum Turner with a 66.

 

The boys’ team played in the Coal Mountain Classic on Saturday at The Hamptons. Scores weren’t available at press time.

 

Both teams will be back in action this week. The Tigers will host Fannin County, at Chestatee Golf Club, on Thursday. First tee time will be at 4 p.m.
