The Dawson County High School girls basketball program closed its summer with a team camp at Georgia College in Milledgeville on June 22-24.

Head Coach Steve Sweat, who is entering his 30th year of coaching, said his junior varsity and varsity teams played eight games apiece over the two and a half days of camp.

"You have to love it," Sweat said. "I think our girls do and I do."

The Lady Tigers opened the camp with a win over powerhouse Calvary Day from Savannah.

"So far, so good. We played against Calvary Day and won. It will get tougher as we go. There are several good teams down here. We will do the best we can to win every game," he said.

The camp was the culmination of a busy summer for the Lady Tigers.

The team has played games at Pickens County High School, a team camp in Gainesville, and finally at Georgia College.

"The girls have had a great summer. They have worked very hard," Sweat said. "After this weekend we won't do much until school starts back."

Sweat said one of the goals at a team camp is for the players to come together and start to create chemistry prior to the season.

"The girls are having fun playing and hanging out with each other in the dorm rooms. It is always a pleasure to see them bond together," Sweat said.
