The Dawson County High School junior varsity girls basketball team, under Coach Anne Hyams, finished the 2013-2014 season with an impressive 11-2 record.

The team, who had been off for two weeks prior to the Feb. 7 game against West Hall, defeated the Lady Spartans, 41-17, before losing Feb. 8, 40-29, to Banks County.

"We had a great season and I am very proud of all the girls," Hyams said. "We have plenty to build on for next year and I'm looking forward to working with our returners and a new crop of players beginning high school."

Against West Hall, the Lady Tigers held a convincing 23-9 halftime lead and never relinquished the lead in the victory.

Scoring for the Lady Tigers were: Emily Queen-10, Brittany Griggs and Eliza Sillesky - six points each, Katelynn Simpson and Tatum Pruitt -five points each, Cassie McPherson -four, Belle Queen and Ava Walker -scored two points each and Lauren Burgess contributed one point.

"Every player ran the floor well and put forth her best effort," Hyams said.

In the Banks County game, the Lady Tigers were behind the entire contest. The game was close, with Dawson County trailing 21-18 at halftime. But in the third quarter the Lady Tigers were unable to score, while the Lady Leopards rattled off 12 points to take a 33-18 advantage.

Sillesky led the Lady Tigers in scoring with eight points.
