The Dawson County High School girls’ golf team finished in seventh place at the AA state golf tournament on Monday. The Lady Tigers were paced by junior Rachel Dotson. She finished the 18-hole event with a 108.

Dawson qualified for the state tournament with a second place finish in the Region 8-AA tournament two weeks ago.

“I’m super proud of these girls,” said Head Coach Van Samples. “Nobody really gave them a chance to get this far. These girls have improved so much this season.”

Sophomore Taylor Hasbrouck finished the event with a 111 to give Dawson a team score of 219 and the seventh place finish.

“Both Rachel and Taylor had one bad hole that inflated their scores, otherwise they played a pretty good round of golf against some tough competition,” Samples said.

Winning the team title was Greater Atlanta Christian with a 151.

The Westminster School scored a 177 to finish second, followed by 8-AA foe Jefferson with a 186.

Four golfers from each team are allowed to compete, but only the top two scores are counted.

Lady Tigers Jessi Phillips and Erin Pruitt also participated for Samples’ team.

Lindsay Adams of GACS won the individual title. Adams three-putted the final green to shoot a 73 as rain poured from the late afternoon skies.

GACS teammate Emee Herbert finished second with a 78 as the Lady Spartans won easily over second place Westminster.

“We have a young team,” said Samples. “All that practice time on the range paid off. If they work hard this summer they can improve and maybe we can make it back next season.”
