The Georgia High School Association voted on Monday to delay the start of the high school football season by two weeks.
The new start of the high school football season will be Friday, Sept. 4. The vote also keeps high school football teams with full 10-game regular-season schedules and full playoff schedules.

All other fall high school sports are set to start on time.
The vote comes from COVID-19 concerns that have caused states around the country to either cancel their season or postpone until the spring.
“These players have been working hard all summer and deserve a complete season,” Dawson County Head Football Coach Sid Maxwell said following the announcement. “I’m so proud that GHSA is driving forward to make this a reality.”

Dawson County High School is currently set to start in-person classes in early August.
