To avoid scheduling conflicts between the 2020 high school basketball and football seasons, the Georgia High School Association (GHSA) announced that the high school basketball season will be delayed.

According to a GHSA press release, basketball practices can start on Oct. 26 as scheduled, but scrimmages have been pushed back until Nov. 9 and the regular season will start on Nov. 20.

The season must finish by Feb. 20, 2021, the release said, with the state playoff date remaining the same, between Feb. 23 and Feb. 24.

The GHSA modified the 2020 softball schedule last week due to the amount of postponed or cancelled games from quarantined athletes due to COVID-19.
