Dawson County High School junior Dylan Forester finished in ninth place at the Class AAA State Cross-Country Meet on Saturday at Carrollton High School.

Forester completed the 3.1-mile course with a time of 17:23 for coach Brian DeRose. He was awarded with a top 10 medal.

"Dylan ran great today," DeRose said. "The times overall were slower than normal across all classes, but at the state meet, times don't really matter anyway, it's all about place. His goal was to finish top 10 and he accomplished that easily."

Winning the boys individual state championship was Austin Sprague from St. Pius X with a time of 16:29.

There were 213 runners in the event.

St. Pius X captured the top three individual spots and four out of the top five to take the team title after tallying 36 points.

Woodward Academy was second with 67 points.

Finishing a close third was Region 7-AAA opponent North Hall with 70 points.

Dawson County came in 13th place with 389 points.

There were 32 teams in the state event.

Representing the Tigers at the meet were: Forester, Chris Bywaletz (18:20), Avery Cowart (20:03), Mason Carr (20:05), Jake Hafermalz (20:56), Garrett Carlisle (21:06) and Brandon Barker (22:10).

"The guys ran a decent race. One of our runners had a bad day, but overall it was a good meet," DeRose said. "After moving up in class we were just concerned about making it to the show, anything else is icing on the cake."

The 2012 cross country season is finished for the Tigers.
