Football preview: Dawson County Tigers at Gilmer County

When: Friday, 7:30 p.m.

Where: Gilmer County High School, 408 Bobcat Trail, Ellijay.

Last meeting: The Bobcats defeated Dawson County 23-0 last year.

What to know: The Dawson County Tigers will travel to Ellijay tonight for a non-region showdown against Gilmer County.

"I thought the crowd was fantastic in Tigers Stadium on Friday night," said Coach Sid Maxwell. "Hopefully our fans will travel to Gilmer and support us this week as we take on a very good Bobcat football team."

The Tigers opened the 2015 football season with a 28-8 loss to Forsyth Central last week, while the Bobcats came from behind to defeat Fannin County, 29-26.

Gilmer will be under new head coach Zach Grage, who implemented a spread offensive scheme for the Bobcats.

Grage replaces former Gilmer head coach Wesley Tankersley who is now at the helm of Ridgeland High School.

Grage came to Gilmer after serving as offensive coordinator at Class-AAAAAA state champion Colquitt County in Moultrie.

Last season Gilmer was 8-3 and lost in the first round of the state playoffs 49-6 against North Oconee.

Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
