FOOTBALL: 14 Dawson County Tigers nominated to Region 7-AAA All Region teams

The Georgia High School Association named their All-Region teams on Friday afternoon, with 14 Dawson County Tigers making the first and second all region teams. 

Eight Tigers were nominated to the First Team All Region. Quarterback Zach Holtzclaw, running back Isaiah Grindle, and receivers Dakohta Sonnichsen and Jaden Gibson all represented the offense. According to Maxpreps, Holtzclaw had the 12th most passing yards in the state with 2,513 through 10 games and Gibson was 53rd in total receiving yards with 754. Sonnichsen finished 83rd in the state with 642. 

On defense, defensive back Brandon Lantz, defensive lineman Cade Adams and lineback Kade Moledor were all named to the first team. According to Maxpreps, Moledor finished 12th in the state with 138 tackles and Lantz finished with the 47th most tackles in the state with 114. 

Dawson County kicker Caleb Bonesteel made the First Team All Region as the kicker. Bonesteel was a four-year starter with the Tigers and made four field goals this season. 

On the Second Team All Region, offensive linemen Brayden Kinney and Riley McCord along with receiver Tyler Lane will represent the Tigers’ offense. Lane transferred from West Forsyth for his senior season and according to Maxpreps, he finished 66th in the state in receiving yards with 687. 

Three Tigers on defense were named to the Second All Region Team. Linebacks Hayden McKinney and Kinkade Weaver along with defensive lineman Logan Berry represented the Tigers. Weaver led the Tigers with 13 tackles for loss and Berry sacked opposing quarterbacks five times, leading the team. 

Five other Tigers were Honorable Mention All Region. Sonnichsen was nominated again as the Tigers punter. Tight end Max Moon, defensive lineman Kevin Haymond and defensive backs Joey Glover and Braedon Hubbard were all honorable mentions. 

In total, 18 separate Tigers made were recognized in GHSA’s announcement. Seven of the players nominated will return next season for the Tigers and four were only sophomores this last season, with Moledor, Adams and Gibson all making the First Team All Region.
