Dawson County High School Tiger wrestler James Evans was named to the Gainesville Times All-Area second team last week.
Evans, a junior, finished the season with a 35-9 record and a second place finish in the state traditional meet held at the Gwinnett Arena in February.
Evans, who wrestled in the 112-pound weight class, lost to Quintri Noel from Spencer High School in the championship match.
The Dawson grappler advanced with wins over Carter Clinebell from Greater Atlanta Christian School in the first round, 11-2.
Evans then won a battle against David Sobasky from Jordan by a close 3-2 score.
Evans won a thrilling victory over Mason Patton from Banks County 6-4 in overtime with a take down. Evans was trailing 4-2 with 30 seconds left and got a reversal to tie the match. The match then went into a 1 minute overtime where first wrestler to score wins.
Named wrestling Coach of the Year was Doug Thurmond from Jefferson.
Wrestler of the Year was Caleb Morris from White County.
Morris, a junior, was 41-2 overall during the last season. He also has back-to-back Class AAA state championships in his weight class.
Josh Harris from Jefferson was named first team All-Area in the 112-weight class.
The sophomore finished the season with a 65-5 overall record and a third place finish at the state meet.
